About the Tokai Goldstar Sound TST-50
The TST-50 is the Goldstar Sound Stratocaster, the name Tokai gave its Springy Sound copies when the dispute with Fender ended in 1983, the first Goldstars are the same guitar with a new decal, a thicker headstock, Final Prospec-stamped saddles and Deluxe-stamped tuners on the 60 grade and up. The 1984 catalogue lists it at 50,000 yen as a 1958 model: a two-piece body in golden sunburst (Tokai's two-tone; yellow sunburst is the three-tone), a one-piece maple U neck, 21 thin vintage frets on a 7.25 in radius, the truss rod adjusted at the heel, and ST Vintage MKII pickups; it also came as a 54 with the button string tree, a 57 in Fender's custom colours, a 62 with a slab rosewood board and a 64 with a veneer board, the R suffix marking rosewood from 1984. The finish is poly. Early Goldstars carry grey-bottomed pickups stamped U (wound to about 6.2k, midrangey) or E (enamel wire, brighter); during 1985-86 these gave way to V, VI and VII stamps for Vintage Mk II, wound a little lower, one reads 5.45k. The brass plate under the pots went in 1985, the 50 grade has plain split-post tuners where the 60 and up carry the Deluxe ones, and by 1986 the 50-grade guitars left the factory with an unstamped neck plate and a gold made-in-Japan sticker. Owners date theirs from 1982 to 1987.
The name came back in the 2010s on reissues ordered by importers and absent from Tokai's own catalogues: the vintage headstock, 7.25 in radius, vintage frets, 21 frets and a heel-adjusted (hex) truss rod, on the same bodies as the AST-95 and AST-104, which carry the modified headstock, a 9.5 in radius and medium-jumbo frets. Owners date these 2016 and 2017. Dating the old ones: five-digit serials are 1983-85, six digits beginning 2 are late 1980s and 01 early 1990s, and the widely copied registry chart is out of date, check the decal, the body stamp (month and batch, sometimes painted over), the stamp on the neck end (an equals sign to 1986, a dash after) and the three-digit code on the switch, whose first digits give year and month. Colour codes: GS is golden sunburst; LB light blue and the ice-blue metallics age towards sage green, with the true colour under the pickguard; MB is Lake Placid Blue.

Every recorded sale, one point each: 19 of them, placed by the day the ad went up. Too few sales to draw a trend through them without inventing one, so the points speak for themselves. Condition is mixed, so some of the spread is a mint against a fair rather than the market moving.

What owners have said elsewhere
Paraphrased from 32 discussion threads among 37 owners, 2019-2026. No names, nothing quoted.
The Goldstar TST-50 is spoken of as Fender-equal or better: one owner thinks it might be better than Fenders and a friend cannot tell it from the Fender Japan version; another who has owned many Fenders since 1984 says the Goldstar is easily as good; a third sold one for a real Fender, realised the Tokai was the better guitar and traded two guitars to get it back 32 years later; regret at having sold one is the recurring note. The sticking point is the vintage 7.25 in radius and thin frets: one buyer walked away for that reason, others refret to 6105 wire and would spec it again; the 50-grade U neck feels skinny to big hands next to the ST-80's V, and one owner found the pickups too vintage and thin.
