About the Tokai TST-62
The TST-62 is Tokai's Goldstar Sound copy of a 1962 Stratocaster, the slab rosewood board being what makes it a 62. It arrived with the 1983 Traditional Series alongside the maple-necked TST-56, the first Tokai Strats with a slab board, the Springy Sound having come only as a 64 with a veneer board or a 54 in maple. Early examples carry the 7okai script logo, and many the modified headstock, which is why the Tokyo Strat versus American Strat story for TST and AST is disputed: both were sold in the United States, and the AST name took over when the logo changed in 1985-86. The 50 grade has a poly finish, E-stamped hand-wound (or U-stamped machine-wound) grey-bottom pickups, Final Prospec saddles, a brass shield plate, Alpha pots and a pickguard with more screws than the 56 that no Fender guard will fit; the 55 grade adds a special colour for 5,000 yen; and a 40 grade with ceramic pickups and Fender-sourced tuners followed in 1986. Colour codes stamped in the control cavity: OR old red is Dakota red, a custom colour and hard to find; FO flamingo orange is fiesta red; R is Torino red; MR metallic red is candy apple; BB black; LB light blue and MB Lake Placid Blue. A one-day promotional run for UK and Irish shops in June 1985 produced the red and purple sparkle TST62-55, TST64-55 and TST54-60, five or six found to date, all stamped 6-5. Owners date theirs from 1983 to 1986.
Dating: five-digit serials mark the 62 copies, 15000-26000 being 1984 and 14xxx December 1983; six digits beginning 2 are late 1986 to 1988 and 01xxxx early 1990s; the three-digit code on the selector switch gives year and month and runs a few months ahead of the build, and the stamp on the body under the pickguard gives the month.

The best-priced as cards, a row of them; every other ad as a line, by ask. Each ask is the seller’s own number; the platform’s mark opens the listing. Each one says when we last confirmed it at its source: the price and availability are from that visit, so check the marketplace before you go.
Price history
Every recorded sale, one point each: 21 of them, placed by the day the ad went up. Too few sales to draw a trend through them without inventing one, so the points speak for themselves. Condition is mixed, so some of the spread is a mint against a fair rather than the market moving.

Paraphrased from 26 discussion threads among 17 owners, 2021-2026. No names, nothing quoted.
The TST-62 and its maple twin the TST-56 are called the best necks Tokai ever made and its most underrated Strats; a collector who has owned Silver Stars, Springy Sounds and Goldstars finds the craftsmanship best on the TSTs and would sell every other Tokai Strat before the TST-62; a 1983 is its owner's favourite, another plays like a dream and sounds wonderful stock, and one owner says a 1981 Springy Sound simply cannot be compared with the slab-board TST-62. Prices favour the Springy Sound logo, but owners insist the Goldstar-era TST is the same guitar, a more accurate Fender replica and in no way inferior; the 40 grade is the one to watch for, with ceramic pickups and Fender-sourced tuners; modders fit Lollar or Manlius pickups and Fender Highway One bridges, which drop straight on.
