MXR M290 Phase 95 Mini

Über MXR M290 Phase 95 Mini

The MXR Phase 95 is a mini phaser that combines two MXR phaser voicings, the Phase 90 and the Phase 45, each with a script-mode option, in a compact enclosure. Its circuit matches the full-size Phase 90, and unlike the vintage script pedal it has true bypass, while taking up less than half the board space.

Owners really rate the Phase 95, several calling it their favourite modulation pedal and an excellent all-rounder: it covers a wide range of usable phaser sounds, from Floyd swirl to Van Halen, and it does it in a mini enclosure with true bypass, which is why many pick it over the full-size 90. The voices come from the Phase 90 and Phase 45 circuits, each with a script mode, and a lot of owners live in the smoother Script 90 setting because the modern Phase 90 can feel too over the top. On placement, the tip is to put it early in the chain, before your drive pedals: run it after the drives and you get a noticeable volume jump and a brighter, less warm sound. It is not universal, though. A minority find the mini underwhelming before and after dirt, or hard to set with distracting flashing LEDs, and a few prefer the full-size 90, the script, or a different phaser altogether. Still, among owners who compared the mini with the big one, most kept the 95.
