About the Dunlop 535Q Cry Baby Multi-Wah
The Dunlop Cry Baby 535Q is the adjustable, do-it-all Cry Baby wah. A rotary control selects several sweep voicings, from a narrow, vocal wah to a wide, sweeping one, and it adds a variable-Q control for the shape of the peak plus a volume-boost switch. There are two versions, the current 9V and an original 18V that many prefer for its throatier growl (it is the 535Q Adam Jones of Tool made famous), and a compact CBM535Q Mini.

What owners have said elsewhere
Paraphrased from 125 discussion threads among 10 owners, 2024-2025. No names, nothing quoted.
The 535Q is a favorite wah in this group, plainly: owners call it my favorite wah, love it, even nothing better, and one who came back to it after trying others says it is his first wah and the one he switched back to. A common comparison is with modeler wahs, one owner finds the 535Q much better than the wahs in a Helix, with a real midrange tonality rather than a shrill top end and a comfortable treadle travel. The versatility is the point: use its range and Q controls to dial the sweep, tame that top end and find a throaty midrange, and owners say it sits beautifully with overdrive and distortion. Practical tips: if you can find the original 18V version, many prefer it for extra growl over the current 9V, and setting the on/off switch fully down keeps you from kicking it off mid-song. The honest caveats: because the current model is 9V, purists chase the growlier 18V, some players prefer a JP95 or a Dunlop Power Wah (which doubles as a volume pedal) for tone or feel, and the top-mounted power jack is awkward on a tight board, so owners angle the plug or use a raised board. For a tweakable, great-sounding wah, though, it is one of the most recommended here.
