About the Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass
The American Deluxe Jazz Bass is Fender's US-made Jazz Bass with active electronics: an 18 volt preamp with a three-band EQ, powered by two 9 volt batteries behind a cover that opens with a coin. Most have an alder body, some ash. The maple neck has a modern C profile, graphite support rods and a contoured heel on a five-bolt plate, with a 9.5 inch radius, a 34 inch scale and a 1.5 inch nut.
What you get depends on the era. Late 1990s examples already carry stacked-coil hum-cancelling Jazz pickups. Dated examples from 2007 and 2008 have Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups, abalone dot inlays and a chrome steel bridge with brass saddles. Those from 2011 to 2015 have N3 Noiseless pickups, an active/passive switch with a passive tone control, the High Mass Vintage bridge, pearloid blocks on a bound board and lightweight vintage-style tuners; their serials start with US and the last two digits of the year. The fret count moved too: 22 on the 1990s and 2000s versions, 21 from 2011. Weighed examples come in at about 8.5 to 9.6 lb (3.9 to 4.4 kg). Later ones came in a molded Fender case made by SKB with TSA locks, with a cable, a strap, Schaller strap locks and a truss rod wrench. A common change is a new preamp (an Aguilar OBP-3 or a Sadowsky unit) or the active circuit removed to run passive, so ask what is fitted. Common finishes are 3-Color Sunburst, Olympic White and Black.
