About the Fender American Vintage '62 Jaguar
The American Vintage '62 Jaguar is Fender's US reissue of the 1962 Jaguar, made in Corona, California, from 1999 to 2012. It has an alder body in nitro lacquer, a maple C neck with a slab rosewood board, a 7.25 inch radius, 22 vintage-style frets, a 24 inch scale and a 1.650 inch (42 mm) nut. The lead circuit has an on/off switch for each pickup and a bass-cut switch; the rhythm circuit has its own volume and tone for the neck pickup. A removable string mute sits under the bridge. Finishes include 3-Color Sunburst, Olympic White, Black and Ice Blue Metallic; around 2000 Fender's Japanese distributor Yamano ordered small runs in colors such as Surf Green and Candy Apple Red.
The neck heel carries a date stamp, the pots are dated, and Fender's serial lookup gives the date. Weighed examples come in at about 8.2 to 9.5 lb (3.7 to 4.3 kg), with necks about 0.81 to 0.83 inch deep at the first fret and 0.90 to 0.93 inch at the 12th. Most came in a brown G&G hard case with a gold lining holding the bridge cover, arm, mute, strap and tags; the mute, arm and cover are often missing. The bridge is the usual change (to a Mastery, a Mustang bridge or Mustang-style saddles), and the original does not always come with it. Owners also fit other pickups and swap the factory cardboard neck shim for a full-pocket one. Chips and checking around the neck pocket are common, and the lacquer yellows with age.
