About the Fender JG-66 Jaguar Reissue MIJ
The JG-66 is Fender Japan's vintage-style Jaguar: a 24 inch scale, a maple neck, a rosewood board, a 7.25 inch radius and 22 vintage frets, two single coils, a floating tremolo. Most have alder bodies, some basswood. The lead circuit has an on/off switch for each pickup, a bass-cut switch and master volume and tone; a slide switch on the upper horn selects the rhythm circuit for the neck pickup. Common finishes are 3-Tone Sunburst, Olympic White and Candy Apple Red, the red often with a matching headstock.
Examples from the 1980s to the mid 1990s were built at FujiGen and read Made in Japan; the earliest carry E serials from the mid 1980s. Examples from 1997 into the mid 2000s are marked Crafted in Japan, most of them credited to Dyna Gakki. The serial sits on the neck just above the neck plate: Crafted in Japan serials starting O date from 1997, P from 1999 to 2002. Nuts measure about 1.64 to 1.68 inch wide, necks mostly 0.78 to 0.85 inch deep at the first fret and 0.90 to 0.98 inch at the 12th, and weighed examples come in at about 8 to 9.1 lb (3.6 to 4.1 kg). Originals came with a Fender soft case and the tremolo arm, which is often missing. The bridge is the part most often replaced, usually with a Mastery or Mustang-style bridge, so ask whether the original comes with it; new pickups and a buzz stop or neck shim are common too. Check the neck pocket for small finish cracks.
