About the Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS

The Standard Stratocaster HSS is the Mexican Standard Strat with a humbucker at the bridge and two single coils, often called a Fat Strat. Mexican ones have an alder body and a maple neck with a Modern C profile and a satin back, a maple or rosewood board, a 9.5 inch radius, 21 medium jumbo frets and a 25.5 inch scale. The single coils have ceramic magnets. A master volume and two tone knobs serve the neck and middle pickups; the humbucker on its own has no tone control, and in the second switch position its front coil pairs with the middle pickup. The bridge is a six-saddle vintage-style synchronized tremolo, and the guitar leaves the factory with 9 to 42 gauge strings.

Weighed Mexican examples come in at about 7.6 to 8 lb (3.4 to 3.6 kg). Owners often swap the pickups, the pickguard and the tuners, so ask what is original.

A newer Indonesian-made guitar sold under the same name has a poplar body, a satin Modern C neck, an Indian laurel or maple board, a Micarta nut 1.6875 inch (42.86 mm) wide and a two-point tremolo with satin chrome saddles. Its colors include Aqua Marine Metallic and Candy Cola.
