Fender American Original '60s Stratocaster

About the Fender American Original '60s Stratocaster

The American Original '60s Stratocaster is a US-made Strat modeled on the transition-era Strats of 1965. Dated examples run from 2017 to 2022, and the model is now discontinued. Serials begin with V and include the two digits of the year, as in V17 on a 2017 one and V19 on a 2019 one.

The alder body and maple neck are both in gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, with a round-laminated rosewood board, 21 vintage tall frets, a 25.5 inch scale and a bone nut 1.650 inch (42 mm) wide. Two things depart from a 1965 original: the board has a 9.5 inch radius instead of 7.25 inch, and the pickup selector is a five-way switch where the original had three positions. Three wax-potted Pure Vintage '65 gray-bottom single coils with alnico 5 magnets share a master volume and two tone controls.

The Thick C neck is fuller than a modern Fender C but has little shoulder. Weighed examples run about 6.4 to 8.6 lb (2.9 to 3.9 kg), most between 7.6 and 8.3 lb. It comes in a black tolex G&G case with a red lining, the tremolo arm, a bridge cover, a certificate and case candy. Common colors are Olympic White, 3-Color Sunburst and Shell Pink. The nitro marks easily, so look for chips near the neck plate. Some owners change the pickups or wiring; ask whether the original parts come with it.
