About the Fender TL-62 Telecaster Custom Reissue MIJ
The TL-62 is Fender Japan's reissue of the 1962 Telecaster Custom. The body is bound on the top and back edges and is alder or basswood; the maple neck has a slab rosewood board with a 7.25 inch radius and 21 vintage frets on a 25.5 inch scale. The bridge has three threaded steel saddles, and standard ones have Japanese-made vintage-style single coils. TX versions have USA Texas Special pickups, and some came from the factory with a Bigsby. Candy Apple Red and 3-Tone Sunburst are the common finishes.
Dated examples run from the mid 1980s into the 2010s; those from the 1980s and around 1990 were built at FujiGen. Examples from the late 1990s to the mid 2000s are marked Crafted in Japan, earlier ones and those from 2010 on Made in Japan. On many the serial is stamped on the bridge plate, so a replaced bridge takes the serial with it. The neck heel usually carries a pencilled build date, and neck and body are stamped with the model code (TLC-62B, or TL62B plus a number). Nuts measure about 42 to 42.6 mm wide, necks about 0.79 to 0.88 inch deep at the first fret and 0.87 to 0.99 inch at the 12th, and weighed examples come in at about 6.8 to 8.8 lb (3.1 to 4.0 kg). Originals came with a Fender soft case or gig bag. Replacement pickups are the usual change, followed by brass or six-saddle bridges and new pots, so ask for the original parts.
