The MD-2 has some genuinely devoted fans, one owner has had his since 2005, says it has never let him down, and flatly calls it the best distortion pedal ever, coaxing nu-metal, thrash, metal, punk and grunge out of it, and even the best classic pop-punk tone. Another is a big fan who thinks it sounds the best of anything in the Boss distortion line, and it repeatedly gets called an underrated pick. Its Bottom control gives it a deep, heavy low end. The tips owners share: rather than chasing more saturation by raising the voltage (which can stress the pedal), put a boost, overdrive or EQ in front of it, and one owner's go-to recipe is the Mega Distortion into an MXR Phase 90 with a little delay and EQ, which he calls pure tone gold.
