The RV-6 earns its place by covering a lot of ground cheaply: owners call it a versatile favourite that rarely lets them down, often the one reverb they need, and its Room, Hall and Plate modes get particular praise (the Dynamic mode, which stays subtle when you play gently and blooms when you dig in, is a favourite too). A couple of practical points come up a lot. For consistent, better-sounding reverb, run it in the amp's effects loop rather than in front of a driven amp, where the level otherwise fluctuates with your guitar volume. And keep the effect level modest, around a third, with the tone rolled back a touch so it does not wash out your dry signal, since in a loud band anything but a fairly high level is hard to hear anyway. It is not universally loved: the Shimmer mode divides people (some prefer a Boss Polara or another pedal for that), and a few just cannot dial in a sound they like.
