Why this number?

The typical used price is the median of 44 used sales observed in the last 90 days, with outliers removed and the figure rounded. An observed sale is often the last asking price rather than a confirmed hammer price.

About the Boss OC-2 Octave

The Boss OC-2 Octave is the classic analog octaver: it adds one or two octaves below your note, plus your dry signal, for thick synth and faux-bass tones. It is monophonic and tracks one note at a time, and its slightly glitchy, imperfect tracking is a big part of its character, the sound of early analog octave that later pedals still try to copy. The 1980s and 90s Japanese-made units are the sought-after ones, and owners find them famously reliable.

What owners have said elsewhere

Paraphrased from 34 discussion threads among 9 owners, 2024-2026. No names, nothing quoted.

Owners who love the OC-2 love it for its character: the vintage Japanese units sound, as one puts it, so good and organic, and they are famously bombproof, one owner has gigged his since 1992 with only an LED swap and never a repair. Here is the thing to understand going in, though: it is monophonic, so it tracks a single note at a time and its tracking is a little glitchy, and that broken, synthy quality is exactly why fans reach for the original rather than a cleaner modern pedal. Play single notes low on the neck and it sings. Two tips owners repeat: put the octave first in the chain, before any overdrive or wah, or the tracking falls apart, and running an OC-2 into a Rat or a distorted amp is the classic trick for that thick, aggressive octave-fuzz sound. If you want accuracy instead of character, that is where owners point elsewhere, chords and instruments like mandolin confuse it, and polyphonic pedals like an EHX POG or a TC Sub'n'Up track cleanly and handle full chords.
