Boss PS-6 Harmonist

About the Boss PS-6 Harmonist

The Boss PS-6 Harmonist is a pitch-shifter with four modes: an intelligent Harmony that generates a second voice in the key you set (the classic twin-lead sound), a Pitch Shift for fixed intervals and octaves, a Detune for a subtle chorus-like thickening, and S-Bend, a dramatic pitch rise and fall. It is aimed squarely at harmonized lead lines in the Iron Maiden and Avenged Sevenfold vein, but its feature set stretches well beyond that.

Owners are fond of the PS-6, one calls it much better than he expected, loving how the harmony and octave voices make his guitar sound fuller and how outrageous the S-Bend pitch rise and fall is, and others simply call it a really cool pedal with a massive feature set and are happy with the results. It does the classic twin-lead harmony (many bought it for Maiden lines), octaves and a detune that even doubles as a decent chorus. Two tips owners share: pitch pedals track most accurately early in the chain, but for harmonies many run it post-gain, and to get the twin-lead sound you dial in the key and a third and keep your guitar well in tune. The honest limit is the intelligent harmony itself: for really accurate in-key thirds, some owners find the PS-6 falls short of Eventide's pitch shifters or the old GT-series harmonizer, a couple ended up not using theirs much, and an EHX Pitchfork covers much of the same ground in a similar size.
