About the Fender American Series Stratocaster

The American Series Stratocaster is the US Strat Fender built in Corona, California from mid 2000 until January 2008, when the American Standard name returned. It brought rolled fingerboard edges and staggered-height tuners that need only one string tree, and it has the Delta Tone wiring: a hotter bridge pickup and a no-load tone control for the middle and bridge pickups that drops out of the circuit at 10. The rest: an alder body, a Modern C maple neck with a satin back and gloss headstock face, a maple or rosewood board on a 9.5 inch radius, 22 medium jumbo frets, a 1 11/16 inch nut, a 25.5 inch scale, and a two-point tremolo with stainless steel block saddles.

Serials read Z plus the last digit of the year, Z1 on a 2001 and Z6 on a 2006, and guitars built in 2004 carry a 50th Anniversary neck plate. Ash bodies came only with the see-through finishes (White Blonde, Natural and Two-Color Sunburst), all dropped in 2002; other colors include 3-Color Sunburst, Black, Olympic White, Hot Rod Red, Chrome Red, Chrome Blue and Butterscotch Blonde. Weighed stock examples come in at about 7.6 to 8.3 lb (3.4 to 3.8 kg). It came in a molded Fender hard case with the tremolo arm, strap, cable, wrenches, manual and hang tags.

On maple boards the black dot inlays often fade or cloud, and lifting or delaminating lacquer turns up on the neck, fingerboard or body. Replacement pickups, locking tuners and rewired controls such as a blend pot are common changes.
