About the Fender American Vintage '62 Jazzmaster
The American Vintage '62 Jazzmaster is Fender's US-made reissue of the 1962 Jazzmaster, made at Corona, California from 1999 to 2012. It has an alder body in nitro lacquer and a maple neck with a slab rosewood board, clay dots and no binding, a 7.25 inch radius, 21 vintage frets, a 25.5 inch scale and a 1.650 inch (42 mm) nut. A slide switch picks between the lead circuit, with a three-way toggle, volume and tone, and the rhythm circuit, the neck pickup on its own thumbwheel volume and tone. The floating tremolo has a lock button.
Weighed examples come in at about 8 to 9 lb (3.6 to 4.1 kg), with necks about 0.80 to 0.86 inch (20.3 to 21.7 mm) deep at the first fret and 0.88 to 0.93 inch at the 12th. It came in a brown hard case with a gold or orange plush interior, with the tremolo arm, a chrome bridge cover, strap, cable and paperwork. The neck heel, neck pocket and pots carry date stamps. Most were Sunburst or Olympic White, with Black too; custom colors such as Ocean Turquoise, Ice Blue Metallic, Fiesta Red and Sherwood Green turn up, and in 2000 the Japanese distributor Yamano ordered runs in Ice Blue Metallic and Burgundy Mist Metallic. The thin lacquer often chips around the neck plate and neck joint. The usual changes are a Mastery bridge and vibrato or a Staytrem or Mustang-style bridge, replacement pickups such as Lollars, and a neck shim; many come with the original bridge and pickups, some without.
