About the Fender Classic Series 70s Stratocaster
The Classic Series '70s Stratocaster is Fender's reissue of the 1970s Strat, built in Mexico at the Ensenada plant. The '70s details are the large headstock with its '70s decal, a bullet truss rod nut at the headstock, Fender F tuners and a three-bolt neck plate with Micro-Tilt adjustment of the neck angle. It has an ash body in polyester, a maple U neck in gloss urethane with a maple or rosewood board, a 7.25 inch radius, 21 vintage frets, a 25.5 inch scale and a synthetic bone nut 1.650 inch (42 mm) wide. Three vintage-style single coils run through a five-way switch, a master volume and tone controls for the neck and middle pickups, under a three-ply white pickguard, with a six-saddle synchronized tremolo.
Weighed examples come in at about 7.3 to 9.1 lb (3.3 to 4.1 kg), most about 8 lb. A new one came with a Fender deluxe gig bag, the tremolo arm, a manual and Allen wrenches; on used ones the arm and the rear cover are often missing. Finish cracks and lifting at the neck pocket and heel are common, and the finish also lifts, chips or cracks on the headstock. Owners most often change the pickups, usually to Seymour Duncan or DiMarzio sets, and replaced pickguards, saddles and bridges turn up too. Natural and Olympic White are the finishes seen most.
