About the Fender Jimi Hendrix Stratocaster
The Jimi Hendrix Stratocaster is made in Mexico. It is a right-handed guitar dressed like a flipped left-handed one: the large 1970s-style headstock is reversed and the bridge pickup slants the opposite way, while the pickguard and controls stay in the normal place. The reversed headstock makes the bass strings longer overall and the treble strings shorter, and all three pickups are mounted backwards, which reverses the pole piece stagger. They are Fender '65-style gray-bottom single coils, wired to a master volume, tone controls for the neck and middle pickups and a five-way switch, with a six-saddle vintage-style tremolo and aged white knobs and pickup covers. The body is alder; the maple neck has a C profile, a maple board with black dots, a 9.5 inch radius, 21 medium jumbo frets, a 25.5 inch scale and a synthetic bone nut 1.650 inch (42 mm) wide. His signature is on the back of the headstock, and the neck plate is engraved with his silhouette.
Weighed examples come in at about 7.3 to 8.1 lb (3.3 to 3.7 kg). A new one comes with a deluxe gig bag rather than a case. Finishes are Olympic White, Black and 3-Color Sunburst, and Ultra Violet examples date from 2018. Owners often change the pickups or the wiring, so ask whether the original parts come with it.
