About the Fender Player Stratocaster HSS
The Player Stratocaster HSS is Fender's Mexican-made Strat with a bridge humbucker. The earliest dated examples are from 2018, and serials start MX plus the last two digits of the year, so MX20 is a 2020 guitar. The humbucker uses Alnico 2 magnets and the neck and middle single coils Alnico 5. A five-way switch, a master volume and two tone knobs run them, one tone for the neck and middle pickups and one for the humbucker; one switch position pairs the middle pickup with the humbucker's inner coil.
Weighed examples come in at about 7.6 to 8.8 lb (3.4 to 4.0 kg), most between 7.9 and 8.4 lb. The neck has a 9.5 inch radius, 22 medium jumbo frets, a 1.650 inch (42 mm) nut and a maple or pau ferro board. A new one comes without a case or gig bag. On used ones the tremolo arm is often missing, and some show a small finish crack at the neck pocket. A used stamp on the back of the headstock marks a factory-refurbished guitar with a new serial. Owners often swap pickups or pickguards; ask whether the originals come with it. Regular colors include Polar White, Buttercream, Tidepool, 3-Color Sunburst, Black and Candy Apple Red; limited runs include Fiesta Red with a matching headstock, an ebony board, a roasted maple neck in Shell Pink, and British Racing Green with Seymour Duncan pickups.
