The American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS, often called the American Deluxe Fat Strat, has a bridge humbucker and two noiseless single coils. It has an alder body (ash on some early ones), a Modern C maple neck with a rosewood or maple board, 22 medium jumbo frets, a 25.5 inch scale, a contoured neck heel, an LSR roller nut, staggered locking tuners and a two-point tremolo with a pop-in arm.

Early guitars, such as those made from 1998 to 2001, have Vintage Noiseless single coils and a DH-1 humbucker on a plain five-way switch, with a 9.5 inch radius board. By the mid 2000s it had Samarium Cobalt Noiseless single coils with the DH-1 and the S-1 switch, a push button in the volume knob that adds pickup combinations. From 2010 it has N3 Noiseless single coils, a compound radius board from 9.5 to 14 inches, and a passing lane push button that sends the bridge humbucker straight out with the tone control bypassed. Earlier necks have abalone dots, N3-era necks pearloid. Finishes run from Crimson Red Transparent on early ones to Montego Black with a gold pickguard in the mid 2000s and Sunset Metallic or Olympic Pearl later.

Weighed examples come in at about 7.4 to 8.7 lb (3.4 to 3.9 kg), with necks about 0.83 to 0.85 inch deep at the first fret and 0.89 to 0.90 inch at the 12th. N3-era guitars came in a molded SKB case with TSA locks, plus a cable and strap. Replacement pickups are common, and the originals do not always come along.
