About the PRS CE 24

The CE is the bolt-on model at PRS. The first run began in 1988 and lasted into the 2000s; after nearly a decade out of the lineup the CE 24 returned in 2016. The current version has a mahogany back with a violin-carved maple top and a bolt-on maple neck in the Pattern Thin carve with a satin nitro finish. The rosewood board has bird inlays, 24 frets, a 25 inch scale, a 10 inch radius and a 1 11/16 inch nut. Two 85/15 humbuckers run through a volume, a push-pull tone that splits the coils and a three-way toggle, for six sounds, and the bridge is the PRS molded tremolo with locking tuners.

Two changes matter within the current run. PRS later moved the body finish to a high-gloss nitro top coat over a cellulose base coat, and the tuners changed from low-mass locking units to Phase III locking tuners with open backs and brass shafts. Weighed examples come in at about 7 to 8 lb (3.2 to 3.6 kg), most 7.3 to 7.7 lb, and necks measure about 0.83 inch deep at the first fret. It comes with a PRS gig bag, the tremolo arm and adjustment tools rather than a hard case. Colors include Eriza Verde, Faded Blue Smokeburst, Gray Black, Dark Cherry Burst and Black Amber; special runs add Flame Maple Select tops, custom colors and dealer exclusives.
