About the Tokai Love Rock LS-122

The LS122 is the plain-top Vintage Series Love Rock of 2015 to 2017: in the 2016 catalogue it sits under the LS125S (maple top) and LS128F (flame veneer) as the maple two-piece top, a solid cap about 11 mm thick with no veneer, over a two-piece centre-joined mahogany body with a one-piece neck, poly finish, Mk2 pickups and 500k pots with 22nF caps. The gold top of the same year is also an LS122, cherry sunburst is the other finish seen, the first two digits of the serial give the year and the model is written in the neck-pickup cavity. Owners date theirs from 2015 to 2017. The electronics are worth knowing before swapping: the originals are 500k pots with a linear-taper volume and 22nF caps, and pot values matter far more than brand, a set of Bourns 500k with Russian paper-in-oil caps is an upgrade in quality, but whether to keep a log or linear taper is a matter of how you use the volume knob.

The best-priced as cards, a row of them; every other ad as a line, by ask. Each ask is the seller’s own number; the platform’s mark opens the listing. Each one says when we last confirmed it at its source: the price and availability are from that visit, so check the marketplace before you go.

No typical price yet for this one, so: one email when a new listing appears, with its ask. Never more than one a day. No account; a link to stop in every email.

Every recorded sale, one point each: 10 of them, placed by the day the ad went up. Too few sales to draw a trend through them without inventing one, so the points speak for themselves. Condition is mixed, so some of the spread is a mint against a fair rather than the market moving.

What owners have said elsewhere

Paraphrased from 11 discussion threads among 14 owners, 2021-2025. No names, nothing quoted.

Cranked through a Katana head and a Mesa cab the LS122 is called a beast; one buyer prefers it to a Gibson, the plain top is called simply beautiful, and a new owner sums it up as purrfect.
