About the Tokai Love Rock LS-50
The LS-50 was the entry point of Tokai's first Les Paul-style range, the model below the LS-60: a three-piece maple cap where the LS-60 has two pieces, on the lower-tier specification, a thin polyurethane finish, a 14-degree headstock, chrome hardware and uncovered Gotoh humbuckers wired through a circuit board. The 18-degree headstock, nitro and nickel hardware begin at the LS-80. The same guitar wore three headstock names: Les Paul Reborn (1978-79), Reborn Old (a few months of 1980) and Love Rock from 1980 on; the earliest carry inked rather than stamped serial numbers, the so-called inkies, and the Reborn-badged ones fetch more.
Owners date theirs from 1978 to 1985. The body is thinner than an LS-80's or a modern LS's, a 1984 measured 51.5 mm, a 1985 about 2 mm less mahogany than a 2008 LS165, because bodies were hand-carved with no fixed thickness. Until mid-1980 the model number was stamped into the fingerboard behind the last fret, then moved to a sticker on the back of the headstock with an ink mark in the neck pickup cavity; a refret sands the fingerboard stamp away. By 1983-85 the specification drifted: some 1985 LS-50s carry a one-piece body and a 17-degree headstock, the export models a dimpled headstock, and the 57 PAF MKII pickups fitted then are high-output ceramics rather than PAF-style, so a mid-80s LS-50, LS-60 and LS-80 are told apart by back pieces, veneer and finish rather than by the catalogue.

Price history
Every recorded sale, one point each: 77 of them, placed by the day the ad went up. The line follows the middle of the sales around each point, with the middle half behind it, and breaks wherever nothing sold nearby. Condition is mixed, so some of the spread is a mint against a fair rather than the market moving.

What owners have said elsewhere
Paraphrased from 73 discussion threads among 57 owners, 2021-2026. No names, nothing quoted.
Owners date theirs from 1978 to 1985, and the tone is warm for the cheapest model of the range: it is called underrated more than once, several say it is by no means inferior to the Gibsons they own, a few call it the best Les Paul they have played, one side-by-side found it grittier and snarlier than an LS-100, and the early ones are said to age as well as the dearer models. Two weighed examples sat around 3.9-4.1 kg. Some temper it: it was the least luxurious model of the range, and one owner says a Reborn stands alongside a Gibson Standard rather than killing it. The stock Gotohs and circuit board divide the room, several rewired or fitted PAF-style sets and describe the change as lifting a blanket off the sound, while others keep the originals and rate the uncovered Gotohs above a modern Gibson's. Selling one is a regret repeated across the threads. A plain-top Love Rock with a 1981-range serial may be a 2010 reissue: the Made in Japan line on the headstock is the tell.
