About the Tokai ST-65

The ST-65 is the ST-60 Springy Sound with the N option, a natural finish, sometimes a matching headstock, at 5,000 yen over the ST-60, the same surcharge that turned an ST-50 into an ST-55; underneath it is the ST-60's one-piece alder body, hand-wound E-stamped pickups and Deluxe-stripe vintage tuners. Natural shows the grain, and that is the point of the model; a slab-board 64-pattern natural of 1980-81 is called very rare. The metallic-green Springys were sold as ST-50, 55, 60 or 65 without much consistency, and the mid-1980s ST65 Super Edition with the Argus SHIFT tremolo and matching headstock is a different guitar. Owners date theirs to 1979 and 1980-81, and the Super Edition to 1985.

The best-priced as cards, a row of them; every other ad as a line, by ask. Each ask is the seller’s own number; the platform’s mark opens the listing. Each one says when we last confirmed it at its source: the price and availability are from that visit, so check the marketplace before you go.

No typical price yet for this one, so: one email when a new listing appears, with its ask. Never more than one a day. No account; a link to stop in every email.

Every recorded sale, one point each: 11 of them, placed by the day the ad went up. Too few sales to draw a trend through them without inventing one, so the points speak for themselves. Condition is mixed, so some of the spread is a mint against a fair rather than the market moving.

What owners have said elsewhere

Paraphrased from 11 discussion threads among 11 owners, 2022-2025. No names, nothing quoted.

A 1979 natural is called possibly the best grain and book-matching ever seen on a natural Strat; a slab-board example is called their best model, the ST-60's body and neck with better tuners; a Super Edition owner since 1985 loves it to bits and calls the SHIFT the best tremolo ever; and one owner rates the Springy Sound the equal of a pre-CBS Fender, which drew a sharp rebuke.
