About the Tokai VS80
The VS80, Versatile Sound, for its coil taps, is the Les Paul Strat of Tokai's early-to-mid 1980s range: a bound mahogany body under a burl maple top, twin humbuckers with push-pull coil taps, a 22-fret maple neck (bird's-eye on some) with bigger frets on a flat radius of about 12 inches and a fat soft-V profile, and a locking tremolo whose push-in arm is held by a screw under the bridge. The 1984-85 Super Edition version, a domestic-market model, adds gold hardware and custom paint on a C-shaped 21-fret rosewood-board neck of 9.25-inch radius, and an LU-prefix serial places one in 1985. Owners date theirs from 1981 to 1985. The trem arm pushes in and is held by a screw or hex nut under the bridge, tighten that if the arm flops, and replacement arms turn up among owners' spares; one heavily modified example runs a Gotoh version of the Wilkinson trem.

What owners have said elsewhere
Paraphrased from 10 discussion threads among 12 owners, 2022-2025. No names, nothing quoted.
A 1982 is called so well made and so playable, a mint 1981 plays as killer as it looks and its quality is called so good; the necks draw the most love, so smooth it is unreal, a fifties feel with 22 medium frets, and the guitar is summed up as a keeper with top-of-the-line quality at an affordable price.
