About the Tokai ST-70
The ST-70 is the rare one among the Springy Sounds: for 1981-82 only, Tokai listed under that number a 1961 copy with a slab rosewood board and a 1964-65 copy with a laminated maple-cap neck, marked Rare in the 1982 catalogue, where every other Springy was a 54, 58 or 64 pattern. Very few were made, perhaps only catalogue prototypes, since the Goldstars that followed had no 61 model, and one example carries E-stamped pickups, a 1980 serial and a two-piece maple neck. A published spec sheet giving the ST70 and upward DiMarzio pickups is doubted: the E-stamped units are Tokai's own, not DiMarzios, which went only on the very top models.
