Boss BP-1W Booster / Preamp Waza Craft

About the Boss BP-1W Booster / Preamp Waza Craft

The Boss BP-1W Booster/Preamp is a Waza Craft pedal with three modes: a clean Boost, plus two preamp voices that recreate the front-ends of classic Boss units, a CE mode (the preamp of the CE-1 Chorus Ensemble) and an RE mode (the preamp of the RE-201 Space Echo). With its tone controls it works as a simple clean boost or as an always-on tone-shaping preamp, and it is made in Japan.

What owners have said elsewhere

Owners are fond of the BP-1W, several just say they love it, and one describes it as making individual notes more pronounced in a well-built, quality package. The reason many keep it is the preamp modes: beyond a straight clean boost it has the CE-1 and RE-201 (Space Echo) preamp voices baked in, and owners who run those, especially the RE mode, tend to leave the pedal on all the time as a tone-shaper that plays well with every drive they throw at it. It is a flexible boost, too, put it post-gain to add volume, mids and a touch of compression for a cranked-tube-amp feel on solos, and it pairs with just about anything. The main caveat is price, at least one owner calls it a bit overpriced, though he still rates it because it is a Waza, and if you only want a plain clean boost, a cheaper SD-1 or a Spark Booster will also do the job. But for a boost that doubles as a couple of classic Boss preamps, owners rate it highly.
