Boss FZ-1W Fuzz Waza Craft

About the Boss FZ-1W Fuzz Waza Craft

The Boss FZ-1W is a Waza Craft fuzz with a Vintage/Modern mode switch. It puts out a big, thick fuzz that stays surprisingly tight, and unlike a scooped Muff its mids and treble cut through, so it borders on distortion and reads well in a mix. Owners find it user-friendly and smooth, and it is made in Japan at a Waza-tier price.

Owners rate the FZ-1W highly as a modern fuzz, they call it a great fuzz, a really nice pedal (one regrets selling his), and more than one says it is totally worth it, with a buyer who watched a pile of demos concluding it was the only one that compared. The appeal is a massive fuzz that still stays tight: crank it and it gets awesomely aggressive, yet the mids and treble cut through rather than disappearing, and it borders on distortion, which suits players who don't usually love fuzz. The Vintage/Modern switch is the main tone lever, so use it to move between smoother classic fuzz and a more aggressive modern voice, and owners slot it into the gain section (after octave/synth, in front of a Muff or amp-in-a-box). The honest caveat is the Waza price, one owner who likes his still feels something is missing for one very specific fuzz tone and is eyeing a much cheaper Behringer, but for a versatile, cutting, well-built fuzz, it wins people over.
