Epiphone Casino Reissue

About the Epiphone Casino Reissue

The Casino Reissue is Epiphone's fully hollow thinline with no center block: a laminated five-ply maple body with basswood top bracing, a set mahogany neck with a 24.75 inch scale, a 12 inch radius, 22 medium jumbo frets, a bound fingerboard with parallelogram inlays and a 1.68 inch (42.7 mm) nut. Two dogear P-90 single coils run through two volume and two tone controls and a three-way switch, with a Tune-o-matic bridge and trapeze tailpiece.

Where it was made matters when you buy one. It was built in Korea from the mid-1990s until about 2007 to 2008, mostly at the Peerless factory and also at the Saein and Unsung plants; production then moved to China, where new ones are made. Korean-made ones have a rosewood fingerboard; many later ones have pau ferro instead. Weighed examples come in at about 5.6 to 6.9 lb (2.6 to 3.1 kg), with necks about 0.80 to 0.85 inch deep at the first fret and 0.85 to 0.93 inch at the twelfth. The standard finishes are Vintage Sunburst, Natural and Cherry, with a newer Turquoise, and many used ones come with an Epiphone hardshell case.

Owners often change parts: replacement P-90s from Lollar, Fralin or Seymour Duncan and new wiring harnesses are common, as are new tuners, nuts and tailpieces, and some have the pickguard taken off for the Lennon look. Ask whether the original parts come with it, and check that the truss rod still has adjustment room.
