Epiphone Les Paul Custom

About the Epiphone Les Paul Custom

The Epiphone Les Paul Custom has a mahogany body and set mahogany neck, multi-ply binding on body, neck and headstock, block inlays, a split-diamond headstock inlay, gold hardware and two humbuckers, with 22 frets on a 24.75 inch scale.

Where it was made matters. Earlier ones were made in Korea, from the late 1980s; production then moved to China, where dated examples run from 2006 to 2008. Some, dated 1999 to 2009, were built in Japan by Fujigen for the Japanese market, with Gibson's open-book headstock and a long neck tenon. Older examples have a maple top and usually a rosewood board rather than ebony. The current version, in Epiphone's Inspired by Gibson line (dated examples from 2021), is all mahogany, with a SlimTaper neck, a bound ebony board, a Kalamazoo-style headstock, a ProBucker 2 at the neck and a ProBucker 3 at the bridge, a gold LockTone bridge and stop bar and Grover Rotomatic tuners. Newer examples have ProBucker Custom pickups, a Modern Medium C neck and a larger headstock inlay. It first came without a case; later ones include a padded Epiphone gig bag.

Weighed examples come in at about 8.4 to 10.3 lb (3.8 to 4.7 kg), most between 8.8 and 9.6 lb, and measured necks run about 0.80 to 0.87 inch deep at the first fret and 0.95 to 1.0 inch at the 12th. Ebony and Alpine White are the usual finishes; Limited Edition Silverburst versions use chrome hardware. Owners often replace pickups, tuners and wiring, so ask whether the originals come with it.
