About the Gibson Memphis ES-Les Paul
The ES-Les Paul is Gibson Memphis's semi-hollow Les Paul: ES-335 construction (laminated maple top, back and sides around a center block, f-holes) under a Les Paul outline, neck and controls. It has a one-piece mahogany Rounded C neck, a bound rosewood board with trapezoid inlays and 22 frets on a 24.75 inch scale with a 12 inch radius, two unpotted MHS humbuckers (Alnico III neck, Alnico II bridge), two volume and two tone controls, Kluson tulip tuners and a lightweight aluminum stopbar. The body is bound top and back, with walnut-stained back and sides under nitro. Dated examples run from 2014 to 2016; the Memphis factory has since closed.
2014 examples come in Light Burst over figured maple or Black. For 2015 Gibson added an engraved F-hole truss rod cover, a historic truss rod, a bone nut in place of the synthetic one, and colors such as Cobra Burst and Lemon Burst. 2014 and 2015 examples often have a TonePros AVR-2 bridge; for 2016 Gibson moved to an ABR-1 with titanium saddles. Weighed examples come in at about 5.8 to 6.3 lb (2.6 to 2.8 kg); necks measure about 0.83 to 0.87 inch deep at the first fret and 0.96 to 0.99 inch at the 12th. It comes with a Gibson hardshell case and a certificate of authenticity. Fine lacquer cracks at the neck joint, cracked knobs and truss rod covers, and fret work needed from new all turn up. Owners sometimes add a Bigsby on a Vibramate mount or change the bridge and tailpiece.
