About the Gibson SG Standard '61 With Stop Bar Tailpiece
The SG Standard '61 with stop bar is Gibson's Nashville-made recreation of the first-year SG: a solid mahogany body with deep bevels, a SlimTaper mahogany neck meeting the body at the 22nd fret, and a bound rosewood board with acrylic trapezoid inlays, 22 medium jumbo frets and a 12 inch radius. It keeps the small five-ply teardrop pickguard and uses nickel hardware: an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, an aluminum stop bar, Vintage Deluxe tuners with keystone buttons and a Graph Tech nut about 1.69 inch (43 mm) wide. The two volume and two tone controls are hand-wired with Orange Drop capacitors.
The pickups are two Burstbuckers: most 2019 examples list a 61R and a 61T, while examples from 2024 on list a pair of '60s Burstbuckers. Necks measure very consistently, about 0.78 to 0.82 inch deep at the first fret and 0.90 to 0.93 inch at the 12th. Weighed examples come in at about 5.8 to 7.4 lb (2.6 to 3.4 kg), most between 6.2 and 6.9 lb. It comes in a brown Gibson hardshell case with a strap, a multi-tool, a polishing cloth and paperwork. Vintage Cherry is the usual finish; TV Yellow, Tobacco Sunburst Perimeter and Custom Color Series finishes such as Pelham Blue Burst also turn up. Pickups and tuners are the usual swaps, so ask whether the originals come with it.
