About the Tokai Love Rock LS-70

The LS-70 name covers two Japanese Love Rocks, the number being the yen price of its day. The 1984-85 LS-70 sits just under the nitro, nickel-hardware LS-80, a poly finish, chrome hardware, a short tenon and Tokai 57 PAF pickups with a sticker on the baseplate, in a hot ceramic version of about 18.5k or a lower-output alnico-sounding one, with the model stamped in the neck-pickup cavity. The 2002-2010 LS-70 and LS-70F are the entry Japanese model of their years: a mahogany body with a maple cap under a flamed veneer (the lamination shows once the pickups are out), rosewood board, short tenon, in flame or violin finish, and sold at about £700 new in 2010; the same guitar was renumbered LS98 as the price rose. Owners date theirs to 1984-85 and to 2002-2010.

The best-priced as cards, a row of them; every other ad as a line, by ask. Each ask is the seller’s own number; the platform’s mark opens the listing. Each one says when we last confirmed it at its source: the price and availability are from that visit, so check the marketplace before you go.

No typical price yet for this one, so: one email when a new listing appears, with its ask. Never more than one a day. No account; a link to stop in every email.

Every recorded sale, one point each: 8 of them, placed by the day the ad went up. Too few sales to draw a trend through them without inventing one, so the points speak for themselves. Condition is mixed, so some of the spread is a mint against a fair rather than the market moving.

What owners have said elsewhere

Paraphrased from 8 discussion threads among 14 owners, 2021-2026. No names, nothing quoted.

Even at the lower end of the Japanese range the LS-70 gets kept: one owner will never part with it, another calls the 1984 pickups a great, versatile design, a 1985 with Seymour Duncan Antiquities fitted sounds great to its owner, and the hardware, electronics and pickups are described as good quality throughout.
