About the Gibson Custom Shop '58 Les Paul Standard Reissue
The '58 reissue, the R8 to owners, copies the 1958 Les Paul Standard, the first year the model came in sunburst instead of gold. A two-piece plain maple top is glued with hide glue to a one-piece mahogany back with no weight relief, and the mahogany neck is set with a long tenon in hide glue. Some tops still show bird's eye or light flame. The Indian rosewood board has a 12 inch radius and 22 narrow, tall frets like the originals, with cellulose nitrate trapezoids, a 24.75 inch scale and a nylon nut 1.69 inch wide. Hardware is a no-wire ABR-1, a lightweight aluminum stop bar and Kluson single-line tuners, with a hand-wired CTS 500K harness.
The neck is listed as a Chunky C or 50s Rounded Medium C, and measured necks are mostly about 0.90 to 0.94 inch deep at the first fret and 0.98 to 1.05 inch at the 12th. Weighed examples mostly come in at about 8.1 to 9.25 lb (3.7 to 4.2 kg). Examples from the 2000s and early 2010s carry BurstBucker 1 (neck) and 2 (bridge); dated ones from the 2020s have unpotted Custombuckers with Alnico III magnets. Red dye bleeding into the cream binding is common, especially in the 2020s. It comes in a brown Lifton reissue case with a certificate of authenticity and hang tags. Pickups are the usual swap, often with the harness or tuners; ask for the originals.

Price history
Every recorded sale, one point each: 656 of them, placed by the day the ad went up. The line follows the middle of the sales around each point, with the middle half behind it, and breaks wherever nothing sold nearby. Condition is mixed, so some of the spread is a mint against a fair rather than the market moving.
