The Les Paul Traditional is the classic-spec Les Paul that Gibson offered next to a Standard that had moved to modern features, made in Nashville, USA; dated examples run from 2008 to 2019. It has a figured maple top on a mahogany back, a set mahogany neck, a bound rosewood board with 22 frets, a 24.75 inch scale, a 1 11/16 inch nut and two humbuckers.

The year decides most details. Bodies from 2008 to 2012 have about nine weight-relief holes and weigh about 8.6 to 9.4 lb (3.9 to 4.3 kg), with measured necks 0.84 to 0.86 inch deep at the first fret. Those from 2013 to 2015 and 2017 to 2019 have no relief and weigh about 8.6 to 10 lb (3.9 to 4.5 kg); from 2013 the controls are hand-wired with Orange Drop capacitors, and 2013 to 2015 necks are specified at 0.900 inch. Pickups are '57 Classic and '57 Classic Plus from 2008 to 2013, '59 Tributes in 2014 and 2015, Burstbucker 1 and 2 in 2018 and 2019. The 2014 has a 120th anniversary inlay at the 12th fret. The 2015 adds G Force robot tuners, a brass zero-fret nut, a wider Rounded XL neck (1.795 inch nut) and titanium saddles; ask for the charger and any removed parts. 2018 and 2019 ones have an aluminum stopbar and often the pickguard in the case.

All come in a Gibson hardshell case. Some versions have a slim '60s neck. Swapped pickups and tuners are common, and cracked knobs or cavity covers turn up.
