The UALS62 is the UK-market version of the Chinese-built ALS62, the Love Rock of Tokai's Traditional series, U for the UK headstock, seen with a flame veneer (F), as a P90 gold top (GT), in lemon drop and violin finish, with a Custom Black Beauty sister (UAL62). Three screws in the truss-rod cover (two below, one above) give away the Chinese build against the two of a Japanese Tokai; the binding is real, the pickups leave the factory about 3 mm under the strings, and it sold for about £750 new before Tokai's new owners dropped the Chinese-made guitars to concentrate on the high-end Japanese range.

A gold top bought in 2024 sounds great, its owner insists, and another's is the daily tool that plays great; one owner calls it miles above any Epiphone, very much like a 2011 Gibson Traditional in feel and, construction differences aside, nearly indistinguishable from USA Gibsons, sounding every bit as good once upgraded. Budget for upgrades if the veneer flame and stock pickups bother you: one owner fitted a Faber ABR with inserts, tailpiece studs and bushings, 50s wiring and Duncan Pearly Gates; set the pickups from the factory 3 mm and adjust by ear; and beware extra-cheap Tokais online, as forgeries are about.
