The Silver Star is Tokai's big-headstock Stratocaster of 1978 to 1984, a copy of the seventies Fender that was current at the time rather than a reissue, built alongside the fifties-and-sixties-style Springy Sound. The grades (SS-36 to SS-80) are yen prices and buy better parts, not different wood: the bottom grades have unmarked pickups and plain hardware, the 60 and above the same pickups and finishes as the equivalent Springy Sound, and Tokai priced an SS-60, ST-60 and TST-60 alike. Custom colours came out of the Hamamatsu factory as special orders.
