About the Gibson Les Paul Standard Premium Plus
The Standard Premium Plus is a Les Paul Standard given a higher grade, more strongly figured AAA flamed maple top; the rest follows the Standard of its year: a mahogany back, a set mahogany neck, a bound rosewood board with 22 frets and trapezoid inlays, a 24.75 inch scale, a 1 11/16 inch nut and two humbuckers, made in Nashville. The pickguard comes loose in the case; the top is not drilled for it. Dated examples run from 2002 to 2017.
Early and mid-2000s examples have a solid back with traditional weight relief (chambering began in mid 2006), hand wiring, Burstbucker Pro humbuckers ('57 Classics on some), Deluxe tuners with green buttons and a rounded '50s or slim '60s neck; weighed ones run about 8.3 to 9.9 lb (3.8 to 4.5 kg). From 2008 to 2010 the body is chambered, with a Neutrik locking jack and circuit-board controls under a clear cover, at about 7 to 8 lb (3.2 to 3.7 kg). From 2008 to 2016 the neck is asymmetrical, with locking Grover tuners and usually a locking TonePros bridge; from 2012 come modern weight relief, a compound-radius board and push-pull knobs for coil splits, phase and a bridge bypass, at about 8.2 to 9.2 lb (3.7 to 4.2 kg). The 2017 version was a run of 150 in Tiger Burst with a flamed back and gold hardware. Necks measure 0.80 to 0.84 inch deep at the first fret.
Jack plates crack at the screws; pickups, bridges and capacitors are often swapped, so ask for the originals.
