About the PRS McCarty 594 10-Top
The 10-Top is the McCarty 594 with an upgraded grade of figured maple top, a step above the standard Core top, rated only when the figure runs across the whole top. The top is flamed or quilted maple. Underneath it is the usual 594, made in Stevensville, Maryland: a mahogany back, a bound 22-fret Pattern Vintage neck and the 24.594 inch scale. Hardware is hybrid (gold and nickel) or nickel.
Three changes matter when you buy one. Early examples carry 58/15 LT humbuckers, later sets are TCI-tuned, and the newest have McCarty III pickups. Earlier examples have tweaked Phase III locking tuners whose set screw must not be adjusted outside the factory; for 2024 PRS changed to non-locking tuners with Wing buttons. Weighed examples come in at about 7.3 to 8.4 lb (3.3 to 3.8 kg). Measured necks run about 0.90 inch deep at the first fret and 0.96 to 0.97 inch at the 12th, a little over the 7/8 and 63/64 inch spec, with nuts about 1.69 to 1.71 inch wide. It comes with a PRS hard case, the certificate of authenticity and case candy with the truss rod wrench; some recent ones ship in a PRS molded case instead. Finishes include Trampas Green, Orange Tiger, Charcoal Burst, Faded Blue Jean and McCarty Sunburst, and some wear custom colors such as smokeburst and wrap burst versions.
