About the PRS S2 McCarty 594
The S2 McCarty 594 is the S2 Series version of the McCarty 594, made at PRS's factory in Stevensville, Maryland. In place of a carved top it has a maple top with an asymmetric bevel, over a slightly thicker mahogany back. The scarfed mahogany neck has the Pattern Vintage carve, slightly thicker than PRS's Pattern carve and asymmetric. The bound rosewood board has bird inlays, a 10 inch radius and 22 frets on the 24.594 inch scale that gives the model its name. Each humbucker has its own volume and its own push/pull tone that splits the coils, with a three-way toggle on the upper bout, and the bridge is PRS's two-piece zinc unit with brass saddles on steel studs. The finish is high-gloss nitro.
One update matters when you buy one. Earlier ones carry 58/15 S humbuckers; for 2024 PRS fitted USA-made 58/15 LT pickups and electronics, and the vintage-style tuners got lighter Wing buttons in place of metal ones. Weighed examples come in at about 7.1 to 8 lb (3.2 to 3.6 kg), most 7.2 to 7.8 lb. It comes in a PRS gig bag, a premium padded one on recent examples, with a truss rod wrench and paperwork. Owners note that the thin nitro finish marks easily, at the arm contour and on the headstock. Fire Red Burst, Eriza Verde and Dark Cherry Sunburst are common finishes; Custom Color and dealer special-run finishes, some of them satin, also turn up.
