About the PRS S2 Custom 24
The S2 Custom 24 is the S2 Series version of the original PRS Custom 24, with fewer features and a different look. S2 stands for Stevensville 2: it is made at PRS's Maryland factory alongside the Core models, and the series began in 2013. It has a flatter, lower grade maple top with an asymmetric bevel instead of a carved one, a mahogany back, a scarfed (spliced) set mahogany neck, a rosewood board with birds, 24 frets, a 25 inch scale, a 10 inch radius and PRS's molded tremolo.
Early ones carry S2 HFS treble and S2 Vintage Bass humbuckers; later ones have 85/15 S humbuckers, modeled on the 30th anniversary 85/15s, with a push-pull tone that splits the coils and a three-way switch. For 2024 the series got USA-wound 85/15 pickups and USA-made electronics with a five-way switch. The neck carve went from Pattern Regular to Pattern Thin, the tuners from S2 and low mass locking to Phase III with wing buttons, and the finish from polyester under acrylic urethane to gloss nitro over a CAB base. The serial starts with the two-digit year, then S2. Weighed examples come in at about 7.25 to 8.1 lb (3.3 to 3.7 kg), with necks about 0.83 to 0.87 inch deep at the first fret and 0.90 to 0.94 inch at the twelfth. It comes in a PRS gig bag with the tremolo arm, wrenches and paperwork. Some owners block the tremolo or swap the pickups, so check that the bridge moves and ask for the original pickups.
