About the Gibson Custom Shop Slash Anaconda Burst Les Paul Plain Top
The Custom Shop Anaconda Burst plain top is the 2017 True Historic 58-spec Les Paul in the artist's green Anaconda Burst, released after he toured the prototypes through 2016 and 2017: a run of 250 VOS guitars plus 25 hand-signed by him. The body is unchambered lightweight mahogany with a plain maple cap, and the examples owners have weighed come in at 3.5 to 3.7 kg. The Gibson USA Anaconda Burst Standards of 2018 and 2020 are different guitars.

Owners rate it at the top of the signature range: one has not played a better Les Paul and credits the True Historic specs, others call it a guitar they will never let go, and in a recorded comparison with the AFD VOS, Jessica VOS, Piezo and November Burst the Anaconda and the AFD sounded deeper and larger. Visitors are struck by the green finish, several prefer the plain top to the flamed version, and new owners describe it as super light and much nicer in the wood than the USA model. The dissent is about the look and the reissues: some wanted a flamed top, one owner finds the finish ugly, and owners of a limited run were annoyed when Gibson USA reissued it and Custom Shop examples flooded the second-hand market.
