The Classic Plus is the Les Paul Classic with a figured, flamed maple top in place of the plain one. The Classic line began in 1990, modelled on the 1960 Les Paul, and the Plus followed in the early 1990s. Examples from the 1990s have a solid mahogany body without weight relief, a slim 1960-style neck, a bound rosewood board with trapezoid inlays, an ABR-1 bridge, nickel hardware and uncovered ceramic humbuckers, a 496R at the neck and a 500T at the bridge. The pickguard engraved 1960 came loose in the Gibson hardshell case, so the top is usually undrilled.

The pickup cavity is marked Classic Plus, LPCP or PT, and the serial is ink-stamped. The earliest, from 1992 and early 1993, read Les Paul Model on the headstock and have thin cutaway binding; later ones read Les Paul Classic. Examples from around 2000 have greenish inlays. Necks from 1992 to 2001 measure about 0.78 to 0.81 inch deep at the first fret and 0.88 to 0.90 inch at the 12th; weighed examples come in at 8.3 to 10.3 lb (3.8 to 4.7 kg).

Repaired headstock breaks turn up; finish checking around the headstock is common, and cracked knobs and jack plates are frequent. The ceramic pickups are the part most often replaced, with '57 Classics, Burstbuckers or Seymour Duncans. The 2012 version keeps the 496R and 500T but has a baked maple board, a weight-relieved body, a choice of '50s or '60s neck and Vintage Sunburst, Heritage Cherry Sunburst, Trans Ebony Burst or Manhattan Midnight finishes.
