About the Gibson Les Paul Standard with '50s Neck Profile
This is the Les Paul Standard with a rounded '50s neck profile, made in Nashville; dated examples run from 2002 to 2008. It has a carved maple top on a mahogany back and a one-piece mahogany neck with a bound rosewood board, 22 frets and trapezoid inlays, on a 24.75 inch scale with a 12 inch radius and a 1 11/16 inch nut. Two Burstbucker Pro humbuckers with Alnico V magnets, which came to the Standard in 2002, run through two volumes, two tones and a three-way switch, with a Tune-o-matic and stopbar, nickel hardware and Deluxe tuners with green keys.
The neck is slimmer than a vintage '50s carve, between a '50s and a '60s shape: measured necks are about 0.81 to 0.83 inch deep at the first fret and 0.95 to 0.98 inch at the 12th. Chambering began in 2006; earlier bodies are not chambered. Weighed solid examples from 2004 to 2006 run about 8.6 to 10.3 lb (3.9 to 4.7 kg), examples from late 2006 to 2008 about 7.6 to 8 lb (3.5 to 3.6 kg). Examples through 2007 are hand-wired, with no circuit board. Stock pickups measure 7.4 to 7.6k ohms at the neck and 7.9 to 8.0k at the bridge. It came in a Gibson hardshell case with paperwork and the pickguard loose; the top is not drilled for it. A TonePros locking bridge, new tone capacitors and other pickups or tuners are the usual changes; ask for the originals. Finishes include Heritage Cherry Sunburst, Honey Burst, Light Burst, Translucent Amber and Ebony.
