About the Tokai Love Rock LS-101F

The LS-101 is the entry Japanese Love Rock of Tokai's post-2023 catalogue under the new owners, and the LS-101F its flame-top version, the same guitar that carried the LS95 number some years earlier, and in flame form ran LS85F, LS95F, LS98F, LS100F, LS115F, LS128F and LS136F over the years before. It is a poly-finished two-piece mahogany body with a two-piece maple cap (under a flame veneer on the F), one-piece mahogany neck, rosewood board, cream binding and a 22.8-25 mm asymmetric U neck; the new catalogue shrinks the line-up to fewer models in more colours (see-through purple and black top among them) and drops the fret-edge binding, which Tokai had rarely used since the 1980s anyway. One-piece backs turn up on some examples where two pieces is the spec. A 2024 ordered through a Tokyo shop was sent from the factory, checked, double-boxed and delivered in six days with a warranty card giving its finishing date. Owners date theirs from 2023 to 2025.

What owners have said elsewhere

Paraphrased from 9 discussion threads among 9 owners, 2024-2026. No names, nothing quoted.

One collector with some twenty Tokais and five Gibsons, a black-top LS-101 and a 2025 bought cheaply among them, calls it pretty great for a cost-effective guitar, well worth its price, and says the lower-spec LS101 and LS147 compare with a Gibson USA in build, poly finish apart, with far superior quality control; another owner objects that it should not be called cheap at all, being a quality build; and a 2023 owner could not be happier with the fit and finish. That collector fitted Faber hardware and swapped the pickups, the stock MK2s not being to their taste; prices from dealers vary widely since the change of ownership, a dealer calls the new list prices insane while that 2025 was had cheaply, so shop around. A 2024 LS-101F arrived with perfect fretwork and needed no setup adjustment at all, really great guitars, its owner says, but we already know this, and a black-top owner calls it a great guitar, worth buying.
