About the Gibson SG Standard T
The SG Standard T is the SG Standard of the 2016 and 2017 model years; the T stands for Traditional. Both years have a solid mahogany body and set mahogany neck in gloss nitro, a bound rosewood board with trapezoid inlays and 22 frets, a 24.75 inch scale and a 12 inch radius, two volume and two tone controls with a three-way switch, and a chrome-plated aluminum bridge and stop bar. The board is thicker than on the 2015 model, the nut is back to 1 11/16 inch after the wider 2015 neck, and the frets are Plek-dressed.
The two years differ in most of what you see. The 2016 has 490R and 498T humbuckers, a large black five-ply pickguard, a rounded neck profile and traditional tuners with keystone or tulip buttons, and shipped in a padded gig bag instead of a hard case. The 2017 has '57 Classic humbuckers, a small teardrop pickguard, a SlimTaper neck and locking Grover kidney-button tuners, and came in a Gibson hardshell case with a multi-tool, a leather strap and a polishing cloth. Finishes include Heritage Cherry and Ebony; 2017 also brought Cherry Burst and dealer-exclusive or limited finishes such as Alpine White and Pelham Blue. Weighed examples come in at about 6.3 to 7.9 lb (2.9 to 3.6 kg), most 6.4 to 6.8 lb. The controls sit on a printed circuit board, and replacing it with hand-wired pots is the most common change, followed by new pickups, tuners and a bone nut; ask whether the original parts come with it.
