About the Gibson SG Tribute
The SG Tribute, which Gibson's own copy calls the SG Standard Tribute, is made in Nashville. It has a mahogany body in a thin satin nitro finish, a set maple neck with a rounded profile, and a rosewood board with 22 medium jumbo frets and acrylic dot inlays on a 24.75 inch scale, with a 1.695 inch nut. Two open-coil 490R and 490T humbuckers with Alnico II magnets sit under a black 5-ply full-face pickguard, with two volume and two tone controls and a three-way switch. Hardware is nickel: Vintage Deluxe tuners with keystone buttons, an aluminum Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge and an aluminum stop bar, with black top-hat knobs. The frets are leveled on a Plek machine at the factory. Dated examples run from 2019 to 2023, in Vintage Cherry Satin or Natural Walnut Satin.
Weighed examples come in at about 6.1 to 7 lb (2.8 to 3.2 kg), and measured necks are about 0.83 to 0.85 inch deep at the first fret and 0.96 to 1.0 inch at the 12th. It ships in a Gibson padded soft case or gig bag, not a hard case, with its paperwork. The controls are wired on a circuit board with plug-in pickup connections. Swapped pickups, often Seymour Duncans, are the usual change, sometimes with the board replaced by conventional pots and wiring, so ask whether the original pickups and board come with it.
