About the Epiphone Les Paul Standard '50s
The Les Paul Standard '50s is Epiphone's 1950s-style Les Paul, part of the Inspired by Gibson range introduced for 2020, and examples are made in China. A mahogany body sits under a solid maple cap; figured versions add an AAA flame maple veneer over the cap, plain top versions do not, and some spec sheets name the body wood as okoume or sapelli. The set mahogany neck has a '59 Rounded Medium C profile and a long tenon under a Kalamazoo headstock. The bound board has pearloid trapezoid inlays, a 12 inch radius and 22 medium jumbo frets on a 24.75 inch scale, with a 1.69 inch (43 mm) Graph Tech nut. A ProBucker 1 at the neck and a slightly hotter ProBucker 2 at the bridge, both with Alnico II magnets, run to two volumes, two tones and a three-way switch on CTS pots with 50s-style wiring. Hardware is a LockTone Tune-O-Matic and stop bar with Vintage Deluxe 18:1 tuners.
Two things changed. The fingerboard was Indian laurel, and on the updated version it is rosewood. Some came without a case, the hardshell or EpiLite case being an option; newer ones include Epiphone's premium gig bag. Weighed examples come in at about 7.9 to 9.1 lb (3.6 to 4.1 kg). Metallic Gold, Vintage Sunburst and Heritage Cherry Sunburst are the main finishes; Ebony, Cardinal Red and Classic White also turn up, and the figured top also comes in Bourbon Burst and Washed Cherry Sunburst.
