About the Tokai LC136

The LC136 is Tokai's Japanese-built Les Paul Custom of the late 2010s and early 2020s, an all-mahogany body with a one-piece mahogany set neck, a dark rosewood or ebony board, gold hardware and a neck on the chunkier side, sold in black among other finishes, and quite distinct from the Kurosawa-only LC218 with its sixties neck and Korean pots. Importing from Japan to the UK is called a piece of cake from a good shop if you budget about 23 per cent in import charges, Japanese prices run at roughly half the UK's, though one buyer had a seller declare a guitar as parts with the neck off to lower the duty.

The best-priced as cards, a row of them; every other ad as a line, by ask. Each ask is the seller’s own number; the platform’s mark opens the listing. Each one says when we last confirmed it at its source: the price and availability are from that visit, so check the marketplace before you go.

No typical price yet for this one, so: one email when a new listing appears, with its ask. Never more than one a day. No account; a link to stop in every email.

Every recorded sale, one point each: 11 of them, placed by the day the ad went up. Too few sales to draw a trend through them without inventing one, so the points speak for themselves. Condition is mixed, so some of the spread is a mint against a fair rather than the market moving.

What owners have said elsewhere

Paraphrased from 6 discussion threads among 10 owners, 2021-2024. No names, nothing quoted.

A new LC136 has a great tone and its slightly chunkier neck was quickly loved; owners of others call them great guitars of such great quality, and fantastic.
