About the Tokai LS-150
The LS-150 has been the top production Love Rock in two eras. On the vintage guitars (1980-85) it is the model above the LS-120, in the rare tier with the LS-100 and LS-200: a one-piece mahogany back under a solid, figured maple cap where the LS-80's is plain or veneered, fret-edge binding, nitrocellulose, hand-wired electronics, brass saddles and factory DiMarzio PAFs, the double-white sets on some. In 1984, when specifications wandered, the solid figured cap (quilted or burl on a few) is what separates an LS-150 from an LS-80, whose figure is a thin veneer.
The name returned in the 2000s on the Premium Series LS150 and LS150F: one-piece back, lacquer finish, a solid flame maple cap in the R9 style, long neck tenon, CTS pots and orange-drop capacitors, and Gotoh hardware with brass saddles and a lightweight aluminium tailpiece, where the Vintage Series below it (LS92, LS98) has a two-piece back, poly finish, veneer top and Gotoh pots. Model numbers are the yen list price and move with it, the 2010 LS150 is today's LS214, except the LS150F, made for the UK market with its number left unchanged for a decade, which is why it sits above the LS198 and LS201 despite the smaller number. Owners date theirs from 1981 to 1984 and from 2003 to 2019. Until mid-1980 the model was stamped behind the last fret; on modern ones it is pencilled in the pickup cavity, and the one-piece back is checked at the seam by the rear strap button.

Price history
Every recorded sale, one point each: 16 of them, placed by the day the ad went up. Too few sales to draw a trend through them without inventing one, so the points speak for themselves. Condition is mixed, so some of the spread is a mint against a fair rather than the market moving.

What owners have said elsewhere
Paraphrased from 52 discussion threads among 40 owners, 2021-2026. No names, nothing quoted.
Owners date their vintage LS-150s from 1981 to 1984 and the modern ones from 2003 to 2019, and the praise is the warmest in the Love Rock range: the best Les Paul they have owned, said more than once; one owner who has played original bursts prefers his 1981 to all of them bar one 1955 Custom; a dealer calls the 150 and the 200 as good as a Les Paul gets; and a 2010 has been its owner's number one for fourteen years as the best-value Les Paul on sale. The dissent is sharper than usual: one collector calls the vintage Tokais mass-produced guitars that were overpriced new and are far more so now, another rates his 1985 Yamaha above the two Tokai Les Pauls he owned, the stock pickups are said not to match Gibson USA's, and one modern example had the common sinking tune-o-matic bridge. Pickups are the usual change, Kloppmann, Seymour Duncan and Gibson 57 Classic sets go in, often with CTS pots, period capacitors and a Faber or Gotoh bridge, while others keep the DiMarzios or Gotohs and say nothing is wrong with them.
